According to the news recently, there was a study founding some 1,307 homeless people in Bangkok. Actually, there are some three-folds or 3,360 people. This is an estimate as of end 2015 conducted by the Issarachon Foundation.

Dr.Sopon Pornchokchak, President of the Agency for Real Estate Affairs who is also the Chairman of the Issarachon which helps the homeless in Bangkok since 2001 but was formally established in 2011. Dr.Sopon said that the head of the survey team led by Mr.Natee Saravari, Secretary General and one of the founder of the Foundation conducted this comprehensive survey every year.

The latest survey in 2015 of 3,360 people came from the survey in end 2014 when 3,249 people were found. The increase during 2013 to 2014 was 3.4%; Therefore, the number of 3,360 homeless is estimated. However, the actual survey will be conducted in end 2015.  The figure in 2012 was 2,856. This implies the steady increase in the population.

Of the total 3,249 people found in 2014, 2,003 were men; whereas, female were 1,246 people. Pranakhon District had the largest number of the homeless of 559 or 17% of the total. Bang Sue District had 283 homeless (9%) and Chatuchak was the third in the priority with 230 homeless (7%) respectively.

Most of them were individuals; however, some of them were families as well. There were some homeless from the neighbouring countries. However for beggars from the neighbouring countries, they were not homeless. They were considered organized criminals who looks professional beggars. In addition, there are some 28 westerners found

Actually, the number of homeless in Bangkok was not so high compared to metropoles western countries. Many of them need asylum instead of a house. It could be observed that the budget of the Ministry of Social Security Developments was only Baht 10 billion per year which is not enough to help the poor particularly the homeless.
