Lisa A. Hobart: How to Value and Tax Personal Properties

Lisa A. Hobart, CAE, PPS, FIAAO, ASA

She has worked in Assessment Administration for more than 40 years, working as a Personal Property Auditor and Administrator for Oakland County, Michigan Equalization Department. She retired as Chief Assessor for West Bloomfield Township, Michigan and served as the Chief Assessor for the City of Detroit. She holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in administration. Lisa holds the ASA designation from the American Society of Appraisers and the CAE (Certified Assessment Evaluator) and PPS (Personal Property Specialist) from the IAAO (International Association of Assessing Officers. She is a Certified General Appraiser in the State of Michigan. Lisa is a Senior Instructor with IAAO.

 

Lisa served two 3-year terms on the Board of Trustees for The Appraisal Foundation. She has written numerous textbooks, articles, and presentation papers. In 2023 she was the IAAO Recipient of the Ian W. McClung Global Award having served as the reviewer for the European Valuation Standard for Plant, Machinery and Equipment for The European Group of Valuers’ Associations (TEGOVA). TEGOVA awarded Lisa a lifetime designation as a Recognized European Valuers for Plant, Machinery, and Equipment.

 

In 2018, she was an IAAO recipient of the Fellow Award. Fellows are individuals who have dedicated their career to the development of our profession. Lisa was also the IAAO 2016 Most Valuable Member and the 2014 Instructor of the Year.
